monks-china-leshan-cc-drs2bizWhat a week of mixed worlds. Troubleshooting a couple of outside projects, dealing with a cranky inspector, and writing about a Buddhist monastery in China, 1864.

I want to approach life in a Buddhist mindset, but my human condition is a constant reminder that it takes compartmentalizing life and reducing the “noise” to walk a Buddhist path. Writing this story has been a pleasure from the viewpoint that life is mystical and magical. I want to take more time to imagine situations, the “what if” of life. Push those limits out further everyday. Stretch my imagination so that I will write you entertaining stories that ask questions about what we already believe.

I am foursquare in favor of an evolving paradigm. A closed paradigm can be the beginning of a very dark attitude about people who are different. I have heard it said that you become that which you attend to the most, thus, I guess it stands to reason to be careful to what you attend.

It’s Friday and I am ‘attending’ a work party this weekend with friends. It is always fun, lots of laughter, good food, and satisfaction for having assisted in bringing things back into balance. Have a great weekend and ask yourself “What do I attend to the most?” Hope you love your answer.

Writing part time

There is a constant battle that all writers must contend with and that is– do I go for it full time or stay part time until one of my books hits. I work outside the home, self employed, which that in and of itself can be tough. However, it’s very much the same deal. I have to track down potential clients and sell myself and my skill. I do not advertise. It’s all word of mouth based on my performance at previous jobs. People tell each other when they are pleased. The stats go something like this. If they like you they will tell five people, if they don’t they will tell up to twenty. You may want to google the exact numbers, but they are in the ball park correct. So I am beginning to feel the effects of getting to know folks online and building relationships. The folks that have read Geared to the Present and The Demarcation of Jack seem to have a good time according to the reviews. So my books are selling at a steady drip. Like the smoldering fire analogy I am expecting a small rush of water that turns into a stream and then a river. And you should too. Whether part time or full time if it’s your dream it’s up to you to make it happen. So hang in there and let’s keep writing our stories.

Sneak peek of Geared to the Past

Saturday, 13 June 1884, 7:30 pm

Master Fei-hung’s room

A high-pitched screech sounded from outside the shuttered window of Master Fei-hung’s warmly lit sleeping quarters. Moments later a second sharp scream left no doubt that Ying had returned. Zhu and Yun immediately rose and held open a tunic while Hong-li lifted the heavy wooden cross-brace, and threw open the shutters. Everyone stood staring out the open window into the dusky evening sky. What followed had Jones and Roark wide-eyed with excitement. A large Eagle flew into the room through the open window, talons first, as if to attack its prey, but instead opened his wings and glided while morphing into an older monk. He broke into a warm sheepish grin as he took two steps forward into the waiting tunic. He wrapped his body in the orange garment and bowed. Zhu and Yun returned a bow to Ying and stepped away. Everyone once again formed a circle, waiting patiently for the report, with the exception of Roark whose exhilaration was made apparent by his laced fingers around his head.

“Me thinks ‘at was a mircle. I dunt know how ‘at’s done, but me thinks I want ta learn so I can change inta a cat.”

“Why pray tell would you choose to be a cat?”

“Cause ‘ey sleep all the time. Pretty sure ‘at’s somethin’ me likes just about more ‘an anythin’.”

Geared to the Past book two of Jones Whitman Time Traveler Series

I am 7500 words into the second book and this book is going to be a lot of fun to read. The emotional roller-coaster is bigger and badder than the last book. I will be posting an excerpt from Past next week. SO come back around for a little juice.  In the meantime, the weather has changed for a couple of days so we are heading up to the cabin to retreat into writing. The wifi sucks so we have less distractions from social media and such.  I sincerely hope it is sunny where you are. Have fun over the next couple of days.

See you in the future,
